How to Use

This download includes all Game Focal Area layers, the Remoteness layer and Hunt Regions & Districts for the entire state. The entire state files are large and work best with Google Earth Pro and will not import into OnX and GoHunt. When you purchase this layer, you also get access to all individual FWP Regional Game Focal Area layers that have been partitioned into smaller files for compatability with OnX, GoHunt and GaiaGPS mapping apps.

Game Focal Areas

These layers are derived from a weighted proximity analysis based on road and trail type and conveniently packaged into digital layer files (KML format) that are easily uploaded into any hunt mapping app (OnX, GoHunt, GaiaGPS, etc) and Google Earth Pro. They can be viewed in 2D or 3D.

The layers highlight the focal areas that are more likely to hold game and incur less hunting pressure, therefore increasing your odds. This means you no longer have to take on the overwhelming task of countless hours behind a computer E-scouting in an attempt to locate hunt areas. Most of the work has been done for you!

There are 4 levels of focus to fit everyone's hunting style and abilities. (See table below for guidelines) As you go from Level 1 to Level 4, the focal areas decrease in size and abundance as the distance from roads and trails increase to hone in on the most remote spots. 

Remoteness Layer
This layer displays remoteness on a color scale, red being least remote and green being most remote. It's a useful layer for those of you looking for the most remote places for an extreme adventure. It also provides a great bird's eye view to help determine what zone you want to focus on getting a tag in. For example, if you're looking for an area to take horses into and avoid crowds, look for areas with lots of green. If you're backpacking in, look for areas with smaller areas of yellow and green. If you're planning to day hunt, look for areas with orange and yellow.

 This is a KMZ file and will upload into Google Earth Pro. It will not upload into hunting apps.

MT FWP Regions Layer
This layer displays Montana FWP region boundaries. It can be imported into Google Earth Pro to use in conjunction with the Remoteness Layer.

Hunt Districts Layer (Deer & Elk, Black Bear, Antelope)
These layers display Montana Hunt District boundaries and are species specific. They can be imported into Google Earth Pro to use in conjunction with the Remoteness Layer.
